Bird flu prevention

The Quebec government is granting $800,000 to the Quebec Poultry Disease Control Team (EQCMA) to strengthen the industry’s response capacity in the event of avian flu. In the context of the spring migration period, the active preparation of all partners is essential.
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Minister responsible for the Centre-du-Québec region, Mr. André Lamontagne, made the announcement on the sidelines of the annual general meeting of the Fédération des egg producers in Quebec.

The aid granted to the EQCMA aims to:

  • Support the updating of biosecurity protocols and training of producers and industry partners;
  • Support the purchase of equipment as well as the research and development of new technologies to quickly eliminate birds from affected farms, in compliance with animal welfare legislation;
  • Contribute to the development of field expertise in cleaning and disinfection of buildings;
  • Allow the hiring of personnel to carry out EQCMA mandates, including those relating to field activities in the event of outbreaks.
