AVIAN INFLUENZA IS BACK
After a break of almost 7 months since the last case of avian influenza in Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency has announced 3 new Primary Control Zones (PCZs), 2 in British Columbia with 3 infected premises each and one more in Saskatchewan with one new infected premise
The warm temperatures of this fall could explain the late departure of migratory birds and with it the excess of virus in the fields, which could increase the risk of new cases. Historically, cases have started from west to east, which is why the EQCMA recommends being vigilant and strictly following the recommendations of the routine biosecurity (green level) protocols which can be consulted in the Biosecurity section and are also available in Spanish.
